This Wasn’t Just One Night
The night I couldn’t remember wasn’t really about that one night.
It was just the first time I stopped pretending everything was normal.
For a long time, drinking had slowly become part of my life. Not in a dramatic way. Not in a way that looked like a problem from the outside.
At first it was occasional. A drink here and there. Something social. Something that helped me relax.
Then it became something else.
Sometimes it was after work. Sometimes it was during the week. Sometimes it was just because the evening felt too quiet.
I told myself it was normal. Everyone drinks. Everyone needs something to take the edge off.
And for a while, I believed that.
There were nights I drank more than I planned to. Nights I woke up feeling heavy and foggy. Nights I told myself I would slow down.
But the pattern stayed the same.
Nothing looked dramatic from the outside. I still went to work. I still showed up in life.
I was functioning.
And sometimes functioning can hide a lot.
Looking back now, that blackout night wasn’t where the story started.
It was just the moment I couldn’t ignore the pattern anymore.
The moment I had to admit that something I had been calling normal… wasn’t really normal anymore.
